Yes it has matured, but by how much? Simply looking at the front doesn't mean anything: you'll have see the sides as well.
We're talking VW's second-gen Tiguan which has since "grown up" and sets new standards in design, comfort and functionality. Presented at the IAA last year, sales commenced in Europe only since April, meaning global market deployment is still in early infancy.
The US will see the new Tig -- in LWB version only and assembled in Mexico -- in showrooms this fall. But our neighbouring Japan has yet to receive an ETA on the new Tig until further notice.
Nevertheless, those in Hong Kong are much luckier, as the vehicle will be launched in town on July 27. A bunch of local auto press have already tested the vehicle in Germany earlier this year, even subjecting them to medium-duty off-road tests with satisfactory results. However, most of them are probably spoiled by the extra amenities which may not see the light for HKDM. In other words, whether the full digital cluster, DynAudio speakers and surround camera will make it to the local specs remains to be seen (even though nav is always out of the question).
So far the only known information is that the HKDM Tig 2 will be available in 1.4T (150hp) FF and 2.0T (180hp) 4WD variants, pending available body styles (Off-road, R-Line etc.), local equipment specs, and pricing.
Knowing that the first-gen Tig has not been all well-received, MGJMW looks forward to learning about the HKDM Gen 2 model specs and vehicular improvements. What exactly will be offered to the HK audiences? And how will it fare in general, particularly the price?
It's quite unusual for VWHK to host a second vehicle launch in one single month, but given the hot summer season where others brands are also promoting their vehicles like hell, this Tig stint must not fail. MGJMW will have an up-close on the actual vehicle at the press reception and return with more pics for reference. So stay tuned!
